There was little doubt that New Jersey Devils forward Miles Wood was going to be made to answer for his transgressions this week, Wood crashed the Bruins net multiple times much to the dismay of Bruins veteran goaltender Tuukka Rask, and we had to wait very little time to see that come to pass on Saturday afternoon.

In the only afternoon game on the schedule the Bruins and Devils faced off in a rematch of their previous matchup and it was only seconds into the game before Wood had already removed his gloves and was answering the bell. From the get go Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller let Wood know that he was going to be in for a rough night, and it was after a hit behind the New Jersey Devils net that Wood decided he would not be playing the role of victim all night long.

Much to his credit, after being stuffed into the boards by Miller, Wood decided early on that he had enough and immediately dropped his gloves to the ice, challenging Miller to do the same. Although Wood gets all the credit in the world for showing his courage, he didn't have much to offer in the way of offense when the fight began and it seemed to be all Miller from start to finish. Thankfully for Wood not much seemed to connect on the part of Miller, although Wood was clearly not pleased with the outcome after the fact.

Although I don't believe Wood was in any way trying to injure Tuukka Rask, but was instead a victim of his own speed and lack of control, there's no question that he was going to have to answer the bell in today's game. I think he did so in admirable fashion in spite of his underwhelming performance in the fight itself.
