The Kitchener Public Library in Kitchener, Ontario now has 40 pairs of skates available to patrons as part of a new pilot project this winter. Anyone with a Kitchener Public Library card can sign out a pair of hockey skates for 24 hours and pick them up just as they would pick up books and reference material.

"It's going to be first-come, first-served and part of the curbside pickup," library CEO Mary Chevreau told CBC Kitchener-Waterloo. "We know there are a lot of people, even in the central area, who don't own skates and might want to try it out," she said. "We felt that with COVID and the fact that there are not a lot of activities that people can do, but skating is one of them."

Incredible! Kudos to Chevreau and the entire Kitchener Public Library for such a cool, innovative idea. If the pilot is a success Chevreau says that the city may expand the service to other public libraries in the area.
