Wilson facing potential season-ending suspension after assault on Buchnevich and Panarin

In case you missed it last night, things absolutely went off the rails at Madison Square Garden.

Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson kicked off the mayhem after he drove forward Pavel Buchnevich's head into the ice after the whistle. With Buchnevich laying face down, Wilson drives his face into the ice before throwing a couple rabbit punches into the back of his head.

Here's the infraction in question:

Okay... first off, I love Tom Wilson as a player. He plays a tough, gritty game that relies on intimidation and physicality. I know he's a dirty player and I accept that. Sometimes playing dirty is part of the game and not everyone likes that. Again, I accept that. But there's NO WAY I can defend Wilson for last night's actions. What you see in the above clip has nothing to do with the sport of hockey. This isn't hockey, this is disgusting. Frankly, they could suspend Wilson for the rest of the season over this and I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep.

But here's the thing... it gets worse.

Rangers superstar Artemi Panarin jumps on Wilson to get him off Buchnevich and ends up getting himself body slammed to the ice by Wilson "Hulk Hogan" style.

Check it out:

Again... this isn't hockey. To make matters worse Panarin is now out of the Rangers' lineup for the rest of the season:

Maybe Wilson should consider a career in the WWE? He could even dress up in a clown costume and take on the masked little people? Y'know... since he seems to enjoy picking fights with people out of his weight class.

In all seriousness though, Wilson is likely looking at a lengthy suspension for his antics last night. Fans online are calling for a full suspension through the rest of the regular season and playoffs. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised. It's time to send a message.
