Despite reports from both Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas and star forward Mitch Marner that the team is 100% vaccinated, Leafs forward William Nylander today admitted that he isn't fully vaccinated.

To be clear, Nylander expects to be fully vaccinated by the start of the season but some medical issues have complicated matters for himself.

Check it out:

Earlier this offseason Marner told Toronto Breakfast Television's Sid Seixeiro that he and his teammates are 100% vaccinated, but evidently that's not the case. I can only assume that Marner either didn't know about Nylander's situation or he was simply covering for a buddy. If it was the latter though, he'd have to assume that the truth would come out eventually so I think that situation is probably unlikely.

In any case, it appears that all of the Leafs roster will comply with the team's vaccine mandate by the time the season officially begins on October 12th. As for Nylander, the 25 year old Swede will be looking to take his game to the next level after a decent campaign in 2020-21. He put up 17 goals and 42 points in 51 games for the Leafs last season, but there's reason to believe that he's capable of even bigger things. Nylander put an even more impressive 31 goals and 59 points in 68 games during the 2019-20 season before the regular season was cut short due to COVID-19.

Now with a hopefully a full season on the schedule, Nylander will be gunning for his first career 70+ point campaign. More than that though, he's looking to take the Leafs beyond the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. For all the grief Leafs star players get come the post-season, Nylander has actually been relatively productive. He put up five goals and eight points in his team's seven game series against the eventual Stanley Cup Finalist Montreal Canadiens last post-season. If he could only get teammate Marner to put up similar production...

The Leafs' training camp officially opens today and you can bet that head coach Sheldon Keefe will be working hard to get his newcomers acquainted with each other and with the team's systems. Hockey season is right around the corner, Leafs fans!
