Wild cut 8 players from their training camp roster on Sunday.

The Minnesota Wild made some significant cuts to their training camp roster on the morning following their first game of the National Hockey League preseason. I suspect that the game had little to no bearing on these decisions, with the Wild no doubt having already made up their minds regarding these cuts prior to last night's contest against the St. Louis Blues.

In total the Wild have cut 8 players from their roster, 6 of which will be returning to their respective teams at the junior level. Those 6 players are the following:

Wild third round draft pick (86th overall) Caedan Bankier will return to the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League.

Wild third round draft pick (65th overall) Daemon Hunt will return to the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL.

Wild first round pick (26th overall) Carson Lambos will return to the Winnipeg Ice of the WHL.

Wild fourth round pick (118th overall) Kyle Masters will return to the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL.

Wild fifth round pick (146th overall) Pavel Novak will return to the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL after spending a season in the Czech League.

Wild second round pick (39th overall) Ryan O'Rourke will return to the Soo Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League after spending some time in Iowa last season.

The Wild have also cut two additional players that will be heading down to the American Hockey League where they will join the Iowa Wild, the Wild's AHL affiliate team, for their training camp as they look to get their season preparations underway. Those players are the following:

Wild fourth round pick (116th overall) Bryce Misley.

Undrafted prospect Trevin Kozlowski.

This likely means that you will not be seeing any of these players on the Wild roster at any point this season, but given that most of these players are very young there is still plenty of room for development ahead. The Covid pandemic complicated matters for many of these players last season and it is impossible to gauge how much that may have impacted their development coming into this training camp. I suspect that we will be seeing at least a few of these names back in training camp next year.
