The Legend Jaromir Jagr continues playing for the team he owns in the Czech Republic even with his 50th birthday approaching.

However, some players seem to forget the age and status of the legendary former NHLer. Now, we understand the game is a game and all players should go out there and do all they can for the win. However, Jagr was the victim of a dangerous hit, one that appeared to have injured his shoulder.

Here’s the hit in question. As you can see, Jagr gets pushed into the boards headfirst while battling another player for the puck. His teammates stuck up for him right after the hit as a scrum broke out behind the opponent’s net.

Jagr did not return to the game after the incident, but commented this to reporters on site once the contest was over.

“I’m not feeling good,” Jagr said in an interview following the game. “I don’t know if I can recover before the season opener. I’m going to see a physiotherapist and then I’ll see.”

Jagr did confirm his shoulder was hurt on the play, and said the hit never should have happened the way it did.

“It’s a shame that players don’t respect one another. Of course hockey is a tough sport and it should stay this way cause it’s more popular and fun for the fans,” he added. “On the other hand the players need to realize that dangerous plays might happen, just like the one that affected me. If a player is facing the boards and is so close to it you can’t just hit him like that. It’s very dangerous.”

Talk about respect.

Jagr last played in the NHL for the Calgary Flames in the 2017-18 season. He made his professional debut for Kladno in 1988-89 and played 24 NHL seasons, starting with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1990-91. He also played in the Kontinental Hockey League.

He won the Stanley Cup twice with the Penguins (1991, 1992) and the Hart Trophy voted as NHL MVP in 1998-99. He led the NHL in scoring five times (1994-95, 1997-2001) and was named an NHL First Team All-Star seven times (1994-96, 1997-2001, 2005-06).

Jagr will turn 50 on Feb. 15, 2022.

We hope he recovers quickly from this awful hit.
