Detroit Red Wings forward Tyler Bertuzzi found himself the subject of intense media and fan scrutiny when it was revealed by GM Steve Yzerman that he was the lone player on the roster who had not received the COVID-19 vaccination, and that it was his choice not to do so.

He's made his exhibition debut tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and according to one fan in attendance at the venue, there were more than a few noticeable boos from the crowd:

”It’s a life choice, a personal choice. Personal choice," Bertuzzi explained during training camp regarding his decision.

Should he choose to remain unvaccinated by the time the regular season rolls around, Bertuzzi will be ineligible to participate in his team's games north of the Canadian border owing to new health and safety guidelines put in place. In doing so, he'll forfeit a considerable chunk of his salary.
