Teams across Europe are on their way to Edmonton for the World Junior Championship, however, two teams won’t be entering the bubble anytime soon.

The International Ice Hockey Federation has announced that Team Germany has eight positive COVID-19 cases and two players on Sweden, too.

That means that Germany will remain in quarantine until Dec. 24, while Sweden will remain in quarantine until Dec. 21, except for some select players.

Several players and coaches, including Sweden’s head coach Tomas Monten, weren’t able to join the travelling parties after testing positive for the virus.

Most teams have been able to jump on the ice today after they were  required to quarantine for four additional days at the hotel before they could start on-ice training.

Team Canada has been holding its selection camp in Red Deer, Alta., about 150 kilometres south of Edmonton, and the U.S. team has been preparing in Plymouth, Mich.

Canada is set to face Germany on Monday, Dec. 26.

Switzerland is also scheduled to play on Monday, however the IIHF will release a revised pre-tournament schedule in the coming days.
