Two NHL insiders reveal the 4 divisions for next season.

The National Hockey League has been hard at work trying to put together a plan that will allow them to put together what will no doubt be another shortened NHL season. Although there has been no deadline put on the negotiations the belief is that the league is hoping to get things underway in time for New Year's Day, but there are still some hurdles to overcome.

One of the big topics of discussion has surrounded what the NHL's divisional split will look like come next season, especially considering the challenges that the pandemic has imposed on the league and its players. One of those challenges, crossings at the border shared by the United States of America and Canada, has resulted in talk of an all Canadian division, talk that would now appear to be confirmed.

This week ESPN's Greg Wyshynski gave what appeared to be merely his best guess at how the league's division would end up given the re-alignment of the Canadian teams. I'll get into why it may have been more than a mere guess in just a second, but first here's a look at how Wyshynski broke down those divisions. 

Canada: Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks.

East: Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals.

Central: Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers, Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning.

West: Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks, Vegas Golden Knights.

As I stated Wyshynski may have been doing more than just guessing and may in fact have had a very good lead on this information without being able to confirm it 100%. At least that is what NHL insider Elliotte Friedman led us to believe with comments he made on Saturday that would appear to confirm all 4 of these divisions.

"I hate to give Greg any credit at all but from what I understand Greg was bang on," said Friedman with a laugh on Saturday. "You could tell that he was sure but he wasn't sure... but I was told that his reporting was accurate and those are the divisions."
