Tuukka Rask's latest comments shed light on his future in Boston
Stanley Cup of Chowder

For a time, the future of All-Star goaltender Tuukka Rask with the Boston Bruins appeared cloudy at best. He had undergone hip surgery at the beginning of his team's offseason, and he has yet to put pen to paper on a new contract.

And to that end, the Bruins secured help in the crease in the form of former Sabres net minder Linus Ullmark. Additionally, Jeremy Swayman is waiting in the wings. However, it doesn't look as though "Tuukka Time" has run its course in Beantown just yet.

During an interview WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” during the annual Jimmy Fund telethon, it didn't sound as though Rask was looking to depart the only NHL team that he's ever suited up for.

“I’ve been so lucky to be a part of only one team in the NHL,” said Rask. “For me it’s about that pride of playing for one team and one team only. I have no reason to chase the money anymore and go somewhere else.

“The Bruins are my home, and Boston is my home,” Rask explained, “and I’ve always wanted to play here, wanted to stay here, so the money won’t be an issue.”

So, have he and the Bruins discussed a new deal? According to Rask, that has yet to happen. However:

“But we had good talks with [Bruins general manager Don Sweeney] and I think we’re on the same page,” Rask added. “So we’ll see how my rehab goes and then hopefully sign a contract.”

Rask completed the eight year, $56 million deal that he signed in 2013, shortly after he became the unquestioned starter in the Boston crease following the departure of 2011 Conn Smythe Trophy winner Tim Thomas. So what kind of contract could Rask agree to next? Don't expect him still to be commanding top dollar.

"I would say I'm not looking for a $7 million contract anymore," he said. "I just like to help the team out. I feel like I'm a veteran goalie and there are some young guys coming in, so whatever I can do to help the guys out I will do it and end my career as a Bruin.

"I'll be ready to go probably around Christmastime, January. So hopefully I can start skating here in a month and a half or so and then progress from there and be ready to go in January."
