Trio of veteran NHLers sign PTO contracts, including longtime Red Wing Riley Sheahan

This just in, the Buffalo Sabres have announced that they've signed veteran forward Riley Sheahan to a professional tryout (PTO) contract and will invite him to their training camp next week.

The Sabres have added forward Riley Sheahan to the team's training camp roster on a professional tryout contract. A nine-year veteran, Sheahan has recorded 164 points (66+98) in 513 career NHL games.

The 29 year old forward has bounced around a bit the past few years after a trade from the Detroit Red Wings. He managed a season and a half with the Pittsburgh Penguins and then another half season the Florida Panthers. He played last season with the Edmonton Oilers putting up eight goals and 15 points in 66 games.

Meanwhile, the Arizona Coyotes have inked defenseman Jordan Schmaltz to a PTO contract as well. Schmaltz is the older brother of Coyotes forward Nick Schmaltz.

And finally the Florida Panthers have inked defenseman Kevin Connauton to a PTO as well.
