Top free agent Mike Hoffman finally signs a new contract

The St. Louis Blues extended Mike Hoffman's stint in The Gateway City today by inking him to a one year, $4 million deal for the upcoming 2021 season.

 The unrestricted free agent had joined the Blues earlier this month on a professional tryout contract with the understanding that he'd be signed to a proper standard player contract once the team was eligible to place injured forward Alex Steen onto injured reserve. With today's move, the Blues freed up over $5 million to offer Hoffman.

The 30 year old Hoffman has spent the last two seasons with the Florida Panthers, leading the team in goals with 29 and added 30 assists (59 points) in 69 games last season. The born sniper has scored Hoffman has scored 20 or more goals in six consecutive seasons and recorded 50 or more points in five straight seasons. He has played 493 NHL games, recording 172 goals and adding 187 assists for 359 points.
