Tim Tebow buys pro hockey team, becomes part of the Winnipeg Jets' organization

Here's a name I haven't check in on in awhile: Tim Tebow.

The former NFL quarterback turned minor league baseball player has toiled in the New York Mets organization the past few seasons playing some A, AA and AAA baseball. Oh... and he's now the proud owner of the ECHL's Jacksonville Icemen. The Icemen, affiliate of the NHL's Winnipeg Jets and the AHL's Manitoba Moose, announced earlier this week that Tebow had joined the team's ownership group.

Ironically, Tebow joins current Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Myles Jack and former defensive end Reggie Hayward on the Icemen's ownership group.  

It makes sense when you think about it, considering that Tebow is still an absolute legend in his native Florida. While he was born in the Phillipines to Christian missionaries, Tebow moved to Jacksonville at a young age and grew up in the city.

“I simply love Jacksonville,” Tebow said in a statement released by the team.  “I am excited to be a part of this new endeavor with the Icemen.  It is important to me to invest back into the community that has meant so much to me.  I look forward to including and expanding the Icemen’s involvement in our Tim Tebow Foundation and other community initiatives.”
