I love the fact that several teams in the National Hockey League have come out with new jerseys this season and, although I realize the moves are designed to help the league recoup some of the financial losses they have suffered as a result of the pandemic, I think it works out great for hockey fans anyways.

The latest team to unveil a new jersey this season is the Washington Capitals who on Monday morning revealed an alternate jersey that will now become the teams 3rd jersey. According to the official announcement from the Capitals, the jersey will be worn for the next 3 seasons which includes 7 home dates for this current NHL season. There's been no announcement in regards to how frequently you can expect to see it in the following seasons, and I suspect that this has yet to be determined.

The jersey is designed to be a tribute to the jerseys worn during the 2018 Stadium Series but it also serves to represent the Capitals and the initiative that they plan to launch off the back of these jerseys. The "W" on the jersey features the Washington monument on the middle part of that logo and the 3 stars above it are meant to represent Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C. The color scheme also is meant to reflect the stars and stripes of the American Flag, fitting given that the Capitals plan to honor frontline workers at the games in which they will be sporting this new look.

Here is a first look at what these new jerseys look like on 3 of Washington's players. I gotta point out that I had a chuckle at the fact that Ovechkin's yellow skate laces really stick out like a sore thumb in this photo.

Fans who are looking forward to seeing what these will look like live will thankfully not have to wait very long at all. The Capitals have announced that the brand new design will make it's NHL debut on Tuesday when they face off against the New York Islanders.

What do you think of the new look? Do you like it? Would you like it enough to consider purchasing one?
