There are some players who are so exceptional, we hear about them from the junior level and then keep getting awed by what they do once they make it to the National Hockey. It was the good for Wayne Gretzky, Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid.

And it looks like it will be the case for this young player : Connor Bedard. You better memorize that name because he is expected to be the protected first overall pick for the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

Bedard made history when he became the first player to get exceptional status in the Western Hockey League (WHL). In Canada, only seven players managed to get the title in the OHL and the QJMHL : John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad, Connor McDavid, Sean Day, Joe Veleno et Shane Wright (another prospect we are watching out for).

This status of exceptional player allowed him to make his long-awaited debut in the WHL despite being just 15 years old.

But the kid has not disappointed.

When he gets compared to Edmonton Oilers’ Connor McDavid, this is how Bedard reacts: “It’s definitely nice to be mentioned alongside McDavid,” he said in a recent interview with Sam Cosentino of Sportsnet.

It’s a fact : several scouts and experts see him as the next Connor McDavid. And we cannot wait to see him in the NHL and which teams will get the chance to land him at the draft.

It will be really interesting to see  how Bedard develops and how he will deal with the high expectations and the pressure on his shoulders, which is already huge for a young teenager.

But man, that kid is already impressive and off to a great start!
