The United States defeated Canada 2-0 to capture its fifth gold medal at the World Junior Championship and first since 2017. There is no doubt that goalie Spencer Knight, who turned aside all 34 shots he faced for his third shutout of the event, and the Americans deserved the win, but they were sore winners.

Many insiders and reporters on site, including TSN’s Ryan Rishaug and Scott Wheeler of The Athletic, saw how an American decided to grab a trash can with the Team Canada logo on it, dragging it across the ice and placing it in the photo.

“There was a “fucking rights!” mixed in.”

On their championship picture, Team USA therefore posed with what appears to be a trash can with a Canada logo on it.

Wheeler was not able to see which player dragged the trash can onto the ice. On the video shared by Rishaug, we see that Spencer Knight is the one pushing the can on the ice to one of his teammates to get it in the picture.

This isn’t right… We have ton of respect for the game they played and they earned this win but this is completely uncalled for.

Some folks will say that they’re kids and should have fun, however, most of these guys have been selected by NHL teams where a certain level of maturity is expected. No NHL team would accept this - imagine on a Stanley Cup picture?!

Unbelievable… come on, learn how to win.
