Team Canada earns convincing win over Team USA in the women's world hockey championship
The Score

Put it up on the board for Team Canada.

The Canadians earned a huge 5-1 victory over Team USA tonight at the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship, taking the top spot in Pool A with a perfect 4-0 record. It was also the largest margin of victory for Canada over the USA since October of 2017.

Meanwhile, Team USA dropped to 3-1.

Jamie Lee Rattray scored twice, while Melodie Daoust had a goal and an assist. Renata Fast and Sarah Nurse also scored for the Canadians, who got 22 saves from goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens. They were able to earn the win without the help of Marie-Philip Poulin, who was injured in Tuesday's win over Switzerland; Brianne Jenner served as captain in her place.

For Team USA, the five goals surrendered marked the first time that they'd been scored upon in the tournament, having earned three straight previous shutouts. Goaltender Alex Cavallini was pulled for Nicole Hensley after giving up four goals on 20 shots; Hensley stopped all six shots she faced in relief.

Both teams now await their Saturday quarter-final opponents.
