UPDATE: TSN hockey insider Bob McKenzie reports that Kirby Dach's tournament is indeed over and that he's likely to miss some time once the Chicago Blackhawks' season opens on January 13th, as well.

In case you missed it yesterday afternoon, Chicago Blackhawks prospect and Team Canada's captain at the 2021 World Junior Championship appeared to break his arm during his team's 1-0 pre-tournament win over Russia.

Check it out:

Head coach Andre Tourigny hasn't issued an update on Dach's status just yet, only to say that he is going for x-rays and an update will be provided at some point before Canada's tournament officially begins on Boxing Day.

Suffice it to say that if Dach's arm or wrist is broken, this is the worst possible news for Canada. Dach is not only the team's captain, he's their best player and their only player with NHL experience. The 19 year old former 3rd overall pick was poised to lead a young, but strong Canadian team in their quest for a gold medal repeat. Take him out of the lineup and Canada doesn't have near as strong as a roster. Stay tuned.
