According to a report from Boston Bruins insider Joe McDonald, the Bruins' second round Stanley Cup Playoff series against the New York Islanders will begin Saturday evening. McDonald reportedly got his information directly from Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy.

For the record, the Nashville Predators and Carolina Hurricanes are schedule to play Game 7 (if necessary) of their first round series on the same evening. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens will play until Monday, May 31st if their series goes seven games, as well. So, it's clear that the NHL isn't content to wait around and see how things play out. The Bruins are ready, the Isles are ready, so let's drop the puck already.

Personally, I think it's a bit silly to begin one round while the other is still in progress, but there's a better than 50% chance that the Hurricanes and Leafs both wrap up their series' this evening, leaving just the Vegas Golden Knights and the Minnesota Wild to settle their series in Game 7 on Friday night.

Interestingly enough, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports that the NHL has scheduled Game 1 of the second round in the West Division between the Colorado Avalanche and either the Golden Knights or the Wild will begin on Sunday.
