St. Louis Blues defenseman Colton Parayko signs massive contract extension

The St. Louis Blues took care of an important matter of business this afternoon, and they sure opened up the pocketbook to do so. 

According to multiple reports, defenseman Colton Parayko has agreed to a monster contract extension that will see him earn a hefty $52 million over eight years, with an AAV of $6.5 million: 


His yearly salary breaks down as follows: 

  • 2022-23: $7.25MM
  • 2023-24: $8.0MM
  • 2024-25: $8.0MM
  • 2025-26: $8.0MM
  • 2026-27: $6.35MM
  • 2027-28: $4.8MM
  • 2028-29: $4.8MM
  • 2029-30: $4.8MM

  • The hulking 6'6, 230 lb. defenseman certainly has endeared himself to fans in the shadow of the Gateway Arch since he was drafted by the Blues with the 86th overall selection in the third round in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He's scored 41 goals with 130 assists in 418 career games, while also tallying another eight goals with 19 assists in 70 career playoff games; he was also a member of the 2019 Stanley Cup winning squad. 

    He's entering the final year of the five-year, $27.5 million contract that he signed prior to the 2017-18 NHL Season; his new deal will keep him in St. Louis through the 2029-30 NHL season.
