It sure looks like Edmonton Oilers defenseman Slater Koekkoek is going to be out for quite a while.

Although there has been no official announcement on the part of the Edmonton Oilers, Koekkoek himself appears to have revealed that he suffered a broken collarbone Saturday night against the Calgary Flames. Koekkoek took to social media on Sunday and published a photo of what appears to be an x-ray of his injury, one that shows a pretty significant break on the collarbone, a break that will take a good bit to repair.

Koekkoek was a participant in the Battle of Alberta on Saturday night and it was during the opening minutes of the game that he was the victim of a huge hit from Calgary Flames forward Sam Bennett. Bennett was assessed a 2 minute minor on the play for interference, Koekkoek never had the puck in spite of the fact that it looked like he was going to pick it up. That 2 minute minor will do little to help the Oilers who could lose their defenseman for as long as 3 months with an injury of this nature.

Here's a look at the hit that caused the injury:

Now here's a look at the x-ray that was shared by Koekkoek on his social media:

The Oilers and the Calgary Flames will clash again on the 6th of March. The games between these two teams are usually very intense and I suspect that the injury to Koekkoek will only serve to fuel the animosity between these two teams.
