Shorter quarantine in place for NHL players ahead of trade deadline

This just in : the Canadian federal government loves hockey too. 

It has been confirmed that the federal government is poised to approve a 7-day quarantine with extra testing for NHL players traded from American teams to Canadian teams before the April 12th trade deadline. Government source says all provinces with NHL teams have approved of the measures. The new seven-day quarantine will include extra testing.

The news comes just weeks before the NHL's April 12 Trade Deadline.

This means that any player coming from the United States acquired in a transaction by a Canadian team will be able to join his teammates more quickly than at the start of the season and therefore miss fewer matches. Every province in the country with an NHL team will need to approve this change.

At the moment, any player dealt from an American team to a Canadian team would have to quarantine for 14 days. Back in January, forward Pierre-Luc Dubois was traded from the Columbus Blue Jackets to the Winnipeg Jets and missed 14 days to respect the mandated quarantine. Because of the long quarantine, it is believed that many teams did not want to make trades and lose a player for two weeks. 

This is news that will undoubtedly have an impact on the activities of Canadian clubs between now and the trade deadline on April 12.
