Shanahan: Leafs will have no fans at Scotiabank Arena in 2021

This just in, Toronto Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan has confirmed that the team will NOT have fans in attendance when the season opens up tomorrow, perhaps for the entire 2021 season.

Meanwhile, Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk proposed a plan to put 6,000 Sens fans in Canadian Tire Centre before quickly deleted his Tweet. It's not yet clear what this means for the team's attendance plans in 2021. Stay tuned.

It's being theorized that Melnyk deleted his Tweet and has pulled back on his plans given poor timing of announcing things while the province of Ontario was announcing a full lock down and curfew during a particularly tough week of statistics concerning COVID-19. Reports from CTV also seem to indicate that Melnyk's proposal has been rejected by the Ontario government already.

However, a senior provincial government source tells CTV News it is not happening.

The government source who spoke to CTV News said that green light isn't coming and was stunned by the timing of Melnyk's tweet.

Melnyk's now deleted Tweet was posted just as Ontario Premier Doug Ford was set to announce a a second state of emergency in the province. Several social media users responded to the tweet, calling it "tone deaf", given the recent surge in COVID-19 infections in Ontario.
