Sens’ Coburn lands on waivers after humiliating play last night!

The Ottawa Senators place veteran defenseman Braydon Coburn on waivers Wednesday. This is taking place just after the veteran player pulled quite a humiliating move during the 4-2 loss at the hands of the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. 

Coburn played Oilers’ forward Jesse Puljujarvi on his own and was absolutely walked on by his opponent, who scored the second goal of the game. He ended the contest with an embarrassing minus-3 rating. 

The move takes place amidst of a nine-game losing skid in Ottawa. The 35-year-old has one assist and is minus-5 in eight games with the Senators this season. 

The Senators acquired Coburn along with forward Cedric Paquette and a second-round pick in 2022 from the Tampa Bay Lightning in December for Marian Gaborik and goalie Anders Nilsson during the offseason. 

Coburn is in the final season of a two-year deal signed with the Bolts and carries a $1.7 million cap hit. He had a goal and three assists in 40 games last season for the Lightning and appeared in three postseason games during the team’s Stanley Cup run.

Coburn was selected eighth overall in 2003 by the Atlanta Thrashers and has played 972 career games so far. The Senators also recalled defenseman Erik Brannstrom from its AHL affiliate in Belleville and added him to the club’s taxi squad.
