Seattle Kraken also reportedly have their eyes on Braden Holtby

Could the Kraken be looking at the 2018 Stanley Cup winning goaltender?

Goaltender Brayden Holtby isn't the goaltender that helped the Washington Capitals to their first Stanley Cup victory in franchise history a mere three years ago.

The veteran's stats have diminished since then, and things didn't get any better upon his arrival with the Vancouver Canucks following the 2020 season.  A Swiss cheese-like 3.67 goals against average combined with a ghastly .889 save percentage is a far cry from the success that he enjoyed during his seasons with the Capitals.

He's signed for one more year with the Canucks with a cap hit of $4.3 million, but could his professional address change for the second time in two years?

According to reports, Holtby is drawing interest from the expansion Seattle Kraken. Take a look at what Iain MacIntyre of Sportsnet had to say:

"The Kraken and Canucks have discussed a sweetener for Seattle if it absorbs Holtby’s cap hit, but the sides have disagreed to this point on how much sugar should be added. The interest from other teams, if legitimate, is important because it would make Holtby transferrable as an asset even if the Kraken don’t see him as a player in Seattle."

The NHL Expansion Draft is tomorrow beginning at 8:00 PM EST, where the Kraken will be required to select 30 players, while 20 of them must be under contract for next season.

The Saskatchewan native was drafted in the 4th round (93rd) overall by the Capitals in the 2008 NHL Draft, and stepped into the starting role during the 2011-12 NHL Season. He's gone on to amass 289 career victories, along with 133 losses and 49 overtime/shootout losses, while sporting a career goals against average of 2.58 and 35 shutouts. He also won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's top goaltender in 2016.
