Veteran goaltender Scott Darling is joining the AHL's Rockford Ice Hogs, affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks, on a professional tryout (PTO) contract. Blackhawks reporter Charlie Roumeliotis of NBC Sports Chicago reports that Darling will join the team later this week when their training camp officially opens.

The 32 year old Darling, of course, began his NHL career with the Blackhawks and was a big part of the team's 2015 Stanley Cup championship. He has a 64-39-17 record with a 2.37 goals-against average, .923 save percentage and four shutouts across three seasons with the Blackhawks from 2014-17. He also went 3-1 in the first round of the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs and had a .936 save percentage in five appearances.

Darling's negotiating rights were traded by the Blackhawks on April 28, 2017 to the Carolina Hurricanes, where he spent the next two seasons. He most recently spent the 2019-20 campaign overseas.

Darling joins an IceHogs goaltending group that includes Tom Auburn, Cale Morris and Matt Tomkins, who's the only one of the four on an NHL contract. The IceHogs are scheduled to open their season on Feb. 5.
