It looks as though Ivan Chekhovich's time within the San Jose Sharks organization is coming to a close. According to multiple reports, the team has placed the young Russian on unconditional waivers for purposes of a contract buyout; the news was first reported by Elliotte Friedman:

Chekhovich was first drafted by the Sharks with the 212th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, and was set to enter the final year of his entry level deal that he inked shortly afterwards. He only put up one point with the Sharks last season while also splitting time between the KHL in his homeland and the San Jose Barracuda, San Jose's American Hockey League affiliate.

His lack of offensive production was unlike his time Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League level, where he put up a whopping 105 points during the 2018-19 season.

According to Friedman, a return to the KHL is likely where Chekhovich's future will take him.
