The Washington Capitals and Alex Ovechkin were ruthless on the poor Buffalo Sabres on Monday, routing them 6-0 and handed the last in the league team another loss…

When it seems that things cannot get any worse in Buffalo, well, they do.

Goalie Carter Hutton made 24 saves for Buffalo, which is 0-9-2 in its past 11 games, the third-longest skid in team history. The Sabres are 0-8-1 in their past nine home games, the second-longest winless streak in franchise history behind the 12-game slump when they went 0-6-1 with five ties between Jan. 10 to March 27, 1991.

After the humiliating loss, Sabres head coach Ralph Krueger attempted to focus on fighting and needing to react right away, while some players just looked like they want the already short season to come to an end. Krueger is 7-23-4 in his last 34 games…

Veteran forward Kyle Okposo met with reporters and revealed how dark things are getting for he and his teammates in the dressing room.

“It’s not easy right now. It’s not easy. This is not an easy situation. Guys care. It’s just not happening right now. I don’t know how else to put it. It’s tough. We’re in a really tough spot here. Guys are trying and it’s just not working. I don’t know what else to say.”

The Sabres visit the Devils in New Jersey on Tuesday night before returning home for a two-game set against the Boston Bruins on Thursday and Saturday. It was reported last week that several season-ticket holders have decided to boycott the games. On Friday, the Sabres were getting ready to have nearly 2,000 fans to their home game against the Bruins on and season ticket-holders were given first dibs. However, team insider John Vogl of The Athletic reported that the Sabres couldn’t even find enough of them to buy tickets to the game.

As for tonight, the Sabres face the Devils, a team that will be looking to snap an 11-game winless streak on home ice.

“We have no time to think about this,” Krueger said. “What we need to do is react. And we will do that, and we will work towards that now.”

This is a(nother) season to forget for the Sabres and their fanbase…
