Rumour: There is only one other team Crosby wants to play for besides Pittsburgh

Talks have arisen that Crosby might leave Pittsburgh for a chance at another Stanley Cup…

General manager Jim Rutherford’s sudden departure was a bomb in the National Hockey League last week and prompted rumours that captain Sidney Crosby and star player Evegni Malkin might joined the conversation in the front office to see if they are interested in taking part in the pending major changes. TSN’s Darren Dreger explained then that Crosby could be asked if he wants to take part in a team rebuild or if he would prefer to chase a Stanley Cup elsewhere.

This would be a tough blow for the Penguins, who basically won the lottery back in 2005 when they come out on top of the draft order and were given Crosby as the strongest rebuilding tool. Now that he’s been the face of the franchise for 16 seasons, it would be so weird to see him wear the colours of a different NHL club. However, if he looks to win another Stanley Cup before hanging up the skates he might not get a choice.

All of these speculations prompter player agent and radio guest David Ettedgui to explain on the air of Montreal’s 91.9 that Crosby is reportedly only interested in playing for one other team in the NHL. This is how Ettedgui explained it, translated from French:

“According to Darren Dreger, Pittsburgh would consider breaking up their big 3-player core (Crosby, Malkin, Letang) if the team fails this year. I guarantee you here, if Crosby decides not to end his career with the Penguins, it will only be to play for the Canadiens and no other team.”

We still have no clue who will take over as new general manager of the Penguins and if he will convince these key players, including Crosby, to get on board the upcoming changes.

We don’t want to say this rumour of Crosby being interested in Montreal too loudly : you know how passionate the Habs fans get! To be continued… Hush!
