Rumour: Penguins consider bringing back Fleury AGAIN!
Twitter

We all got the feeling that the Pittsburgh Penguins were interested in getting goalie Marc-Andre Fleury back, especially when the veteran netminder hit the trade market this summer. Oh what a bad idea that would have been for the Vegas Golden Knights, who have used Flower as their starter for the playoffs after another impressive season in net.

Earlier this season, it was revealed that the Penguins had not only tried to re-acquire Fleury during the offseason, but also held more conversations at the start of the regular calendar to see if a move was possible. That was before general manager Jim Rutherford resigned, he who was at the forefront of those talks during the offseason.

Now with the Penguins ousted once again in the first round and GM Ron Hextall and president of hockey operations Brian Burke at the helm, insider Elliotte Friedman wonders if another attempt could be made by the Penguins. This is how he explained it on the 31 Thoughts podcast on Sportsnet:

“Last year they tried to trade for Fleury, I mean this is just me talking out of my butt, but would they consider that again? Is that a reasonable idea?”

This will surely sound exciting for Penguins’ fans, who not only love Flower, but also have issues with Tristan Jarry who mightily struggled against the Islanders.

Hextall is believed to look at other options as well, since we know how the Golden Knights are likely to refuse to trade Fleury.

Friedman wonders if Hextall could look once again at former players in Los Angeles and inquired about Kings’ goalie Jonathan Quick as a short-term option.

“No one knows Jonathan Quick better than Ron Hextall, would that be someone they would consider doing? I think you’re probably looking at a short-term, veteran option.”

If the Penguins go after Fleury again, a lot more rumours will emerge this summer!
