It has been a very unusual season in the National Hockey League, much in the way that the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs were themselves extremely unusual as well, and there are quite a few teams around the league that have failed to deliver on the expectations that were set before them prior to the start of the season.

At or near the top of that list has to be the Philadelphia Flyers who came into the season expecting to deliver a strong showing but who are now destined to miss the playoffs yet again. There are many people at whom you could point the finger of blame including the likes of general manager Chuck Fletcher and young goaltender Carter Hart, but it sounds like it could very well soon be someone else paying the price for the organization's recent failure to deliver on the ice.

In a recent article for the New York Post, Rangers insider Larry Brooks, a man who became familiar with Vigneault during the head coach's tenure with the Rangers, revealed that he has been hearing rumblings that Vigneault could be on the outs in Philadelphia after a failed season with the Flyers. Keep in mind Brooks did not state outright that Vigneault would be ousted from his role behind the bench, but merely that is is now a possibility.

From Brooks:

We’re hearing that it is no sure thing at all that Alain Vigneault will return for his third season in Philadelphia next year.

It did not end there however with the Rangers insider adding another name to his list of potential coaches to be on the potential outs with their team, with the other name on the list being that of New Jersey Devils bench boss Lindy Ruff. Citing a desire to perhaps go with a different approach to help shape the Devils' young roster into a competitive unit, Brooks this time around seemed to use more strongly worded statements to describe the possibility of Ruff being replaced.

Again from Brooks:

Told too, but we can’t cross our heart and swear on it, that the Devils might be seeking a younger man than Lindy Ruff to shepherd the flock of youngsters flowing through the organization.

The end of the season is drawing near and so too could the jobs of at least a few coaches in the National Hockey League.
