It now appears that the suspension to Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson will stand.

Although there has been no official announcement, National Hockey League insider Pierre LeBrun is now reporting that he expects Wilson will not seek to overturn the 7 game suspension that he received for a devastating hit on Boston Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo. There was a lot of talk about Wilson potentially appealing the suspension, even prior to the announcement that it would be 7 games, but it would appear either the Capitals, Wilson, or the National Hockey League Players Association or some combination of those 3 believe that an appeal is not worth pursuing.

Thankfully it does sound like Carlo is going to be ok. On Sunday Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy informed reporters that Carlo was feeling better today, which is a good sign when you consider how serious the situation sounded initially. Following the hit from Wilson, Carlo collapsed to the ice while clutching at his head and eventually had to be helped off the ice by the Bruins training staff. Worse than that however was the news that he was transported to hospital in an ambulance following the hit. Carlo would spend the night in hospital, likely under observation after suffering a serious concussion, and would eventually be released the next morning.

Unfortunately Cassidy also told reporters that it sounds like Carlo is going to be missing quite a bit of time.

Wilson will lose far more than just ice time as a result of this suspension. On Saturday NHL insider Chris Johnston reported that Wilson would be losing a whopping $311,781.61 in salary as a result of the suspension. Hockey players, especially established players like Tom Wilson, earn a very good living, but that is going to be a big hit to anyone's bank account.

The league released a lengthy explanation of why Wilson was receiving such a severe suspension following their announcement, which makes sense considering 7 games is a big blow in this shortened NHL season. If you missed the ruling from the NHL on this hit, you can watch their complete break down in the video below.
