Rumor: Evgeni Malkin out for Game 1.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without one of their top stars for Game 1 of their first round series against the New York Islanders in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Although the Penguins have not officially confirmed the news, which comes as no surprise from Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan, it does appear as though forward Evgeni Malkin will not be in the lineup this afternoon. There have been signs all week during Penguins practice that have suggested Malkin will not be ready to go, and on Saturday he was not on the ice for warmups with the rest of his teammates.

This is a huge loss for the Penguins who already saw Malkin miss significant time this season due to injury, and you have to wonder how long it might be before he can become a factor in this series, or in these Stanley Cup Playoffs.
