Rumor: Canucks and Ducks discussing a 1 for 1 trade.

There are rumblings of a one for one trade being discussed, or at the very least that is what it would appear to be at this time. 

News first broke when Vancouver Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal reported that the Anaheim Ducks and Vancouver Canucks were involved in trade talks, specifically as it pertains to veteran forward Jake Virtanen. Virtanen has been the subject of trade talk for several seasons at this point but despite his name coming up rather regularly when it comes to the Canucks rumor mill, a trade has obviously never materialized.

I don't think it would be a stretch to suggest that Virtanen has largely been a disappointment for the Canucks at this point, this in spite of the fact that he has nearly 300 games under his belt in the National Hockey League. When Virtanen was selected 6th overall at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft the Canucks had very high expectations because of his natural skills and his size, but despite recording as many as 18 goals and 36 points in a season Virtanen has never really lived up to those lofty expectations. 

So what are the Canucks looking to get in exchange? 

Well interestingly enough Dhaliwal has obtained information that suggest the Canucks are looking to acquire 25 year old centerman Danton Heinen in this trade. Heinen, who is a native of Langley, British Columbia and would be a great fit from a marketing perspective for the Canucks, has spent his last two seasons with the Anaheim Ducks. Originally drafted in 2014 by the Boston Bruins Heinen has appeared in 246 NHL games and has 40 goals and 73 assists to his name for 113 career points.

Update: A second source is now reporting that these discussion are in fact taking place, with Canucks report Thomas Drance confirming the information put out by Dhaliwal. According to Drance it would appear that "nothing is imminent" however these things tend to develop quickly so who knows where it will go in the next couple of hours.
