The Jack Eichel talks remain alive and loud and it sounds like another contender has entered the rumblings.

Eichel has been trending in trade rumours ever since the Buffalo Sabres were out of contention, and talks heated up when the captain admitted that he would mull over his future with the organization this summer. He was especially upset with the Buffalo Sabres’ demands not to undergo surgery on the herniated disc in his neck. Eichel went on to say that there’s a “disconnect” between him and the Sabres organization regarding a neck injury that he suffered and that his focus is on getting healthy for next season “wherever that may be.”

We’ve heard rumours of many teams entering trade talks, including the Vegas Golden Knights, along with the Minnesota Wild, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers, however now it sounds like Canada is getting into the mix.

Frank Seravalli of Daily Face-off reveals that he wouldn’t be surprised to see the Montreal Canadiens entering the chance for Eichel this summer. As you know, the Habs, who lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Cup finals, were handed a tough blow when they learned that Shea Weber might sidelined a long time, but could use his money on long-term injury to make a move. On top of that, the Seattle Kraken might go after Ben Chiarot or Joel Edmundson at the expansion draft, which means GM Marc Bergevin will have some doe to spend.

There are also talks that Phillip Danault will test the free agent market later this month and the Canadiens cannot be top contenders with yet another hole up front. Eichel could be a fit.

However, you have to imagine the type of return the Sabres would seek to let Eichel go. You could easily see them asking for Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Alexander Romanov, along with the first-round pick they are said to be seeking in a deal. While we do not know for sure that the asking price would be for the Habs, you know it would be a blockbuster trade to get Eichel in Canada.

Eichel is under contract through 2025-26 with a $10-million cap hit and played his last game of the campaign for the league-worst Sabres on March 7 before being ruled out for the remainder due to his neck injury. He did manage to tally two goals and 18 points in 21 games this season before he was injured.

We better keep an eye on this: Seravalli knows what he’s talking about!
