Report: Sabres pushed for Vladar or Swayman in Hall trade and failed

In case you missed it this past weekend, the Buffalo Sabres traded star winger Taylor Hall to the Boston Bruins along with forward Curtis Lazar for the underwhelming return of forward Anders Bjork and a 2nd round pick.

While the Bruins had been linked to Hall for weeks now, this trade was a bit of a head scratcher. If players like Nick Foligno and David Savard were able to net a 1st round pick plus additional assets, why did the Sabres come up so short in the Hall deal?

Well, according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Sabres rookie GM Kevyn Adams tried his absolute best to pry one of Daniel Vladar or Jeremy Swayman, two promising young goalies, away from Bruins GM Don Sweeney but couldn't close the deal.

From Friedman's most recent 31 Thoughts podcast for Sportsnet:

“I think at one time, Buffalo asked Boston for one of their two young goalies. Either Vladar or Swayman. And that obviously didn’t happen.”

Evidently Adams moved on from Vladar and Swayman and was forced to settle on forward Anders Bjork. And it's a shame really, because Vladar and Swayman have both looked pretty legit this season and there's no denying the fact that the Sabres could use a solid young netminder to help them stabilize things there. Count this one a BIG WIN for Sweeney and the Bruins.
