According to a report from New York Rangers inside Larry Brooks the Rangers have reached out to free agent centerman Brian Boyle regarding a contract for the upcoming 2021 NHL season.

From Brooks' most recent column for The New York Post:

And indeed, The Post has learned that the team has checked in with Boyle, who was one of the key forces through the team’s ascension at the start of the last decade. Let’s make it clear. A contract offer is not around the corner. As we understand it, management has advised Boyle that the team is taking a wait-and-see approach with the kids.

Fair enough... wait and see what you have in guys like Filip Chytil and Brett Howden and then circle back on Boyle if you feel that the youngsters don't fit the bill. Of course, Boyle isn't just sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring. Brooks reports that several other teams have reached out to Boyle as well.

Check it out:

There are, we’ve learned, several clubs who have been in contact with similar messages for Boyle, who thus may not wait and see what happens with the Rangers.

For what it's worth, the 36 year old forward played 39 games with the Florida Panthers last season, putting up six goals and 15 points. He was last with the Rangers organization in 2014, before moving on to play with the Tampa Bay Lightning. In 805 career games split between the Los Angeles Kings, Rangers, Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils, Nashville Predators and Panthers the 6 foot, 6 inch, 245 pound forward has 130 goals and 231 points.
