Report: Jonathan Bernier linked to five teams in trade talks

The NHL trade deadline is just over a week and a half away and, despite plenty of available players, fans and analysts are preparing for a pretty lacklustre trade frenzy. After all, COVID-19 restrictions have put a damper on player movement this season, so why would things be much different on April 12th?

One player who may be on the move though is Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jonathan Bernier. The 32 year old netminder has an impressive 2.78 GAA and .918 save percentage in 17 games with the Red Wings and his $3 million annual contract is up this offseason.

In his latest column for NBC, reporter Adam Gretz takes a look at the five most likely destinations for Bernier and... surprise, surprise, Gretz chooses the St. Louis Blues as Bernier's most likely spot. It's not exactly a secret that Jordan Binnington has struggled this season and as a result the Blues are in serious risk of missing the playoffs.

Gretz also sees the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers as interesting options for Bernier, as well.

Personally, I don't think the Oilers or Flyers make any sense. The Oilers already have a logjam of mediocre goaltenders and there's no way that Bernier is going to save the Flyers' season. A return to the Leafs though could be intriguing. Thoughts, Leafs fans?
