According to a report from Nick Alberga of Toronto's FAN 590 sports radio, the NHL is targeting Wednesday, October 13th as the official start date for the 2021-22 season.

Check it out:

For those wondering, the current season's Stanley Cup Playoffs are expected to wrap up sometime in July. While the NHL had May 8th as it's start date for the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs it remains to be seen what will happen with postponed games and re-scheduling. As it stands though, the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft, 2021 NHL Entry Draft and the opening of restricted and unrestricted free agency are all scheduled for the final week of July. So, this means essentially that a "normal offseason" has been pushed forward and condensed a month in order to allow for this season's compressed schedule.

Here's hoping we can get back to some sense of normalcy in 2021-22 and that the season starts on time in October... not January...
