According to multiple online reports, the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks are both pursuing KHL sniper Damir Zhafyarov, whose contract with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod expires in April.

The 26-year old Zhafyarov has 20 goals and 58 points in 54GP this season in the KHL and has been in the league since just 16 years old. There's a belief that he'd like to come over the NHL though following the KHL's season.

It'll be interesting to see where Zhafyarov ends up. On one hand the Red Wings can provide him with plenty of opportunity to get into the lineup and play big minutes immediately. On the other hand, the Blackhawks have a much more structured roster in place and as an organization they've proven that they can help players establish or re-establish themselves. Stay tuned.
