Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman continues to put his mark on the franchise for whom he served as captain for two decades, albeit now in an executive role.

The final 23-man roster for the 2021-22 edition of the team continues to take shape, and to that end, they've announced the waiving of two figures. First, veteran defenseman Brian Lashoff, as well as 28 year old Ryan Murphy.

Lashoff has been a constant in the Red Wings organization, routinely splitting his time between the NHL and the AHL-affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins. He was dealt last season to the Columbus Blue Jackets before being immediately flipped to the Tampa Bay Lightning, who assigned him back to the Griffins so he could continue his tenure as the club's captain.

Meanwhile, Murphy is a former 1st round draft pick of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2012 and has skated in 175 NHL games; he was signed to a two-way deal by Detroit over the summer.
