Fans started to lose patience in Hockey Town when the Detroit Red Wings lost to the Chicago Blackhawks. This was the last straw that prompted many of them to demand that head coach Jeff Blashill get the boot. It isn’t the first time we hear that Blashill has landed on the hot seat in Detroit, however, it feels like this time, general manager Steve Yzerman might agree with them.

The Red Wings now sit at 2-4-1 with a minus-nine goals differential and are trending in the wrong direction. Something’s gotta change and many believe it should be the coaching staff.

“Not good enough” Blashill answered when asked to describe Detroit’s compete level following Sunday’s 6-2 loss to Chicago.

“I didn’t think we were competing like crazy out there,” Blashill added. “I thought we were competing OK. OK doesn’t cut it in this league and it’s not going to cut it enough for us, for sure.”

Isn’t he the one who is responsible for motivating his roster and get them to be a competitive team? Not sure this is what fans want to hear a few games into the 2021 shortened season…

However, if we want to play devil’s advocate, the Red Wings haven’t been lucky as they sit without Filip Zadina, Sam Gagner, Robby Fabbri, Adam Erne, and Jon Merrill, who are all on the COVID list.

But what if things don’t change once these guys come back… Fans in Hockey Town deserve more and we wonder if now is the time for Yzerman to already start looking at replacement options behind the bench.

Maybe if a coaching change does not take place now, it will this upcoming offseason.
