Rask speaks following Game 6, confirms he'll need surgery

In case you missed it last night, the Boston Bruins' post-season is officially over after losing Game 6 of their second round Stanley Cup Playoffs series against the New York Islanders.

It was a fantastic series full of incredible moments from both teams, but in the end the Bruins just couldn't catch the breaks that they needed to close out games. Credit to the Islanders though, they're a gritty team with absolutely no quit. They pushed when they needed to and they locked things down whenever they get a lead. I mean... what else would you expect from Barry Trotz and the Islanders, though? This is a team that prides itself on playing a complete game in all three zones and plays with some serious pace and physicality. In other words, the Isles will be no easy pushover for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the semi-finals.

It remains to be seen what happens with this team during the offseason but there's a very good chance that longtime Bruins veteran goaltender Tuukka Rask has played his final games for the Bruins franchise. Following the game Rask refused to talk about his offseason plans or the possibility of him moving on, but he did admit that surgery is an option for him to correct a lower body issue.

Rask was clearly injured for the majority of this season and yesterday evening in particular he just did NOT look like his usual self. Although, some Bruins fans might say that Rask played EXACTLY like his usual self... especially his playoff self. Rask has been a solid, even spectacular, goaltender at times for the Bruins but you have to really, really wonder if he played his final game for the team yesterday evening. Fan sentiment has not been kind to Rask the past few seasons and well... maybe he just doesn't have it anymore? Maybe he's not the "big game" goalie that this team needs to earn another Stanley Cup championship? Then again, do you put your full faith in rookie Jeremy Swayman next season? Big decisions looming for Bruins GM Don Sweeney this offseason... stay tuned.
