Rask explains why he left the Bruins net with just seconds left in a tie game

“It's an entertainment industry, we’re trying to provide entertainment for the fans.” Um.... what!?

I'm not sure I've ever seen this before...

With the score tied 2-2 late in the third period of last night's game between the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers, Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask elected to pull himself by heading to the Bruins' bench for an extra man. Why, you ask? I have no clue.

There was no delayed call on the play and the score was deadlocked in the final minute of the third period. In other words, this is the worst time for a goalie to just... decide he's done? Wouldn't be the first time for Rask in that respect, but I digress...

In any case, watch Rask head to the bench and look at his team's reaction once they figure out what he's doing:

What are you doing, bud!? Get your head in the game!

In the end, Brad Marchand won the game 3-2 in OT for the Bruins, so I guess it's a 'no harm, no foul' type situation. But, man oh man... if Bruins fans weren't on Rask before this, the guy sure isn't making things easy on himself.

After the game Rask joked with the media saying that ,"I just had to tell something to Jaro (Halak) real quick."

In reality though, Rask simply lost track of the score and thought his team was down 2-1 in the game. "I honestly thought we were down 2-1. That’s it. I thought we were down 2-1," Rask said while laughing. "I was waiting for Butchy to wave me over there. I’m like why the heck is he not? Then I think Chucky [Charlie McAvoy] told me, 'Buddy it’s 2-2.' So..."

With the Bruins getting the win though, Rask seemed to be in good spirits about his gaffe.

"It's an entertainment industry I guess," he said. "That’s what we’re trying to provide, entertainment for the fans. I’m sure people were shocked at first, but hopefully they got a good laugh out of that. I sure did."
