This just in, New York Rangers general manager has hired former NHLer Mike Grier to serve as Hockey Operations Advisor for the team.

Check it out:

In his new role, Grier "will work with the hockey operations department in both hockey-related decisions and off-ice player and prospect development", a statement reads on the Rangers' official website. Since retiring from his playing days in 2011, Grier has had stints as a pro scout with the Chicago Blackhawks (2014 - 2018) and behind the bench as an assistant coach with the New Jersey Devils (2018 - 2020).

Of course, he was a rugged winger during his NHL career who racked up 162 goals and 383 points in 1,060 games split between the Edmonton Oilers, Washington Capitals, Buffalo Sabres and San Jose Sharks. The Detroit, Michigan native represented the USA on the international stage several times and is seen as a young hockey executive on the rise around the NHL. In other words, this looks to be a smart hiring by Drury and company.
