Rangers cut 13 players from their training camp roster on Sunday.

The New York Rangers announced significant changes to their training camp roster on Sunday, with a whopping 13 players being trimmed down from the current roster. The Rangers will also officially kick off their preseason tonight when they will face off against the New York Islanders, no doubt playing a role in the timing of this announcement.

None of the cuts today were particularly surprising and they included 5 players who will be returning to their junior teams following the cuts. Those players are as follows:

Rangers third round pick (65th overall) Jayden Grubbe is headed back to the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League.

Rangers third round pick (75th overall) Ryder Korczak is headed back to the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL.

Rangers fifth round pick (127th overall) Evan Vierling is headed back to the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League.

Rangers fourth round pick (103rd overall) Dylan Garand is headed back to the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL.

Rangers fourth round pick (112th overall) Talyn Boyko is headed back to the Tri City Americans, also of the WHL.

The remaining players who were a part of today's roster cuts will all be headed back to the American Hockey League where they will begin training camp anew with the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers AHL affiliate team. Note that this does not preclude them from potentially playing with the Rangers this season, although that is likely to be the case, but instead indicates that they won't be on the Rangers opening night roster barring any catastrophes.

There will still be plenty of cuts to come in the near future as the Rangers draw closer and closer to the upcoming regular season, especially considering the fact that the Rangers still have a relatively large training camp roster following this round of cuts. According to the Rangers official website there are still 47 players who remain in training camp following today's cuts, a far cry from the 23 man roster that they will be fielding on a nightly basis in the NHL.
