UPDATE: An update to our previous story from earlier today. It appears that the Vegas Golden Knights player who tested positive for COVID-19 was none other than star free agent acquisition Alex Pietrangelo. As a result, Pietrangelo has been added to the NHL's protocol list.

Check it out:

Earlier today, the NHL announced it was postponing tonight's game between the Vegas Golden Knights and the St. Louis Blues due to a COVID-19 breakout amongst the Golden Knights' players and staff. It's believed that a player, who we now know is Pietrangelo, and a member of the team's coaching staff have both tested positive. Of course, the team's coaching staff was rocked by positive cases earlier this week forcing GM Kelly McCrimmon to step onto the bench.

Additionally, the team's training facilities and practice rink have been shut down indefinitely. In effect the NHL has shut down the Golden Knights until further notice. The team's games next week will be rescheduled, as well with an announcement from the NHL expected in the next 24-48 hours.

Suffice it to say that his is a huge blow to a team that had gotten off to a red hot start. The Golden Knights look like legitimate Stanley Cup contenders once again so it'll be interesting to see how this hiccup affects their season. Stay tuned.
