The talk of the hockey world over the last 24 hours has been the trade deal between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Winnipeg Jets, a trade that saw two high profile players swapping teams in Pierre Luc Dubois, now of the Winnipeg Jets, and Patrik Laine, now of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

In both cases it was obvious that the players left their former teams under less than ideal circumstances and although no one really knows what caused those respective situations to degenerate, it seems as though at least Dubois is looking to move on. Although he was under no obligation, especially considering the humiliation he was subjected to on his way out, Dubois took to social media on Sunday to send a farewell to the City of Columbus, the Blue Jackets organization, and his former teammates.

For the sake of preserving his message, here it is unedited and in full:

To the entire #CBJ organization, thank you! I am forever grateful for the opportunity you gave me to fulfill my dream of playing in the NHL. The memories I have from my time in Columbus will last a lifetime.

To the fans, you are one of a kind! It was an absolute honor to play in front of you each and every night at Nationwide Arena.

To my teammates, thank you for all you’ve taught me on and off the ice and the incredible friendships we’ve created. I’ll miss you guys.

I have no doubt that the message will ring more than a little hollow considering that Dubois effectively strong-armed himself out of the situation he was in with the Blue Jackets, however I will say that I do believe him to be sincere here. Dubois has steadfastly refused to reveal the reason that he forced a trade out of Columbus, and although I am only speculating that would lead me to believe that Dubois may indeed have had good reason to get out of town.

Nonetheless it is a nice gesture on the part of Dubois, and I am hopeful that at least some will receive the message in a positive light.
