Palmieri rocks McAvoy with a shoulder to the chin

UPDATE: McAvoy has returned to the game. No harm, no foul apparently.

If you were expecting fireworks tonight between the Boston Bruins and the New York Islanders, well you got 'em!

These two teams have served up an absolute BARN BURNER of a game once again. The play is mostly balanced with some great chances for each side and both teams have no problem throwing the body this evening. But, Bruins fans probably wish that the Isles weren't throwing the body so liberally after Islanders forward Kyle Palmieri gives Charlie McAvoy the shoulder shiver completely away from the puck.

McAvoy has left the game and is no doubt in concussion protocol. For what it's worth, there way no call on the play... and that DEFINITELY won't sit well with Bruins fans after head coach Bruce Cassidy's "New York Saints" comment from Monday evening.

This, of course, comes after Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy's comments Monday night in which he called the Islanders the "New York Saints". Following his team's Game 5 loss, Cassidy went on a bit of a rant about how the Islanders get away with infractions and never seem to get into trouble with the officials. Cassidy called the Islanders the "New York Saints" as a bit of a jab about how they can seemingly do no wrong in the eyes of NHL referees. For what it's worth though, penalty calls have been fairly even throughout this entire series. In any case, Isles fans have taken up the Saints nickname and are running with it and frankly, I think it's hilarious. They're chanting "NEW YORK SAINTS! NEW YORK SAINTS!" whenever the Isles take a penalty and a band of fans were even spotted playing "When the Saints Come Marching In" outside of Nassau Coliseum before puck drop this evening.

I've got to say though, Cassidy, McAvoy and the rest of the Bruins absolutely have a reason to be upset with the lack of call on Palmieri's hit. It's away from the play, it's clear contact with the head and... well it's just a dumb play by a smart, veteran player in Palmieri. Safe to say that the Saints got away with one here...
