Over 40 players sent to waivers on Sunday.

The National Hockey League season is now just a few short days away and today's waiver transactions are evidence of that fact. We have a huge number of players headed to the waiver wire on Sunday with over 40 players up for grabs as teams around the league begin to trim the fat off of what will be their opening day rosters.

There are several notable players who have been waived today and included among them are a number of players who were first round draft picks into the National Hockey League. There were 19 teams active on waivers today which represents over half of the league, and with so many players waived you have to believe that there may be some claims submitted.

There are a ton of names on this list and that includes a number of at least serviceable NHL players. This is exactly the kind of day you could see several players changing teams, although do keep in mind that the team making the claim is also likely making cuts at this time of the year. We will have to wait until Monday to know definitively which of the players on this list have managed to pass through the waiver wire, and which players on this list have been claimed by a rival team.
